History

Mammoet Maritime can boast two centuries of maritime experience. Between 1985 and 2009, our company was known as Bergings- en Transportmaatschappij BTS B.V. (BTS), during which time it managed to build up a solid reputation as a maritime service provider.

BTS had been a full subsidiary of Mammoet since 2002. It was established in 1985 from a merger between former Bergings- en Transportmaatschappij Scheffer in Urk and parts of the shipping company Gebr. Goedkoop in Amsterdam that already belonged to Mammoet. To date, these two companies lie at the heart of Mammoet Maritime. During this period, BTS grew from a regional player serving the north of the Netherlands into a prominent player in Western European coastal waters and inland waterways.

Goedkoop was one of three companies that set up Mammoet Transport in 1972. Goedkoop’s history as a maritime service provider dates back to 1807. These freight shippers by origin became involved in maritime services as a contractor for transport and civil projects on water back in 1828. Mammoet Maritime is the contemporary exponent of this long history of maritime entrepreneurship.
