Placing a bridgepart near Bonn (06/24/2009)

The location:  The Kennedybrücke in Bonn, Germany.
Weight:     350 tons
Length:       92 metres

The Kennedybrücke, a bridge that crosses the Rhine at Bonn, needs to be widened on both sides. It has been decided to hang the extended section on the bridge from the water. A tandem hoist was needed for the middle section, so the contractor called in Mammoet Maritime.

Last week Mammoet installed the Sandauer Brücke in Havelberg, Germany. (03/16/2009)

Before we started, we already knew that we had to deal with some critical points. First, we had to jack-up the bridge (with a weight of 620 tons, 90 meters long and 17 meters wide) approximately 2 meters to be able to install the skidtracks with skidshoes under the supporting points of the bridge. Due to the high level difference between quay and water (2.65 meters) we had to build the skidtrack on the barge (Mammoet Maritime’s Marne 1 + 2 coupled together, 42 meters long and 15 meters wide) onto high supports. We could vary the height of these supports on the barge in case the waterlevel would rise or fall with a maximum of 200 mm.
